I received 2 mini NARS Lip Pencils as a free birthday gift from Sephora in the US in 2015. Since then, I’ve had plenty of time to play around with them and test them out and I can easily say that i love them.
The mini size is 1.8 grams and whereas the full size is 2.4 grams. They come in the form of a pencil which means that when they become blunt, they do require sharpening which can get annoying. I would prefer a wind up pencil as it’s easier to use and requires one less tool. However, a benefit of the sharpening is that it forms a tip at the end which makes it easier to apply to the outer lines of your lips. I also love that the end of the pencil shows the colour so that it makes it easier to find the colour that you’re after.
I have a satin lip pencil in the shade “Rikugien” which is a shimmery pink colour and a velvet matte lip pencil in the shade “Cruella” which is very appropriate as it is a deep red. To me, it’s the ideal Christmas colour and it is a very warm, dark red. The colour “Rikugien” is perfect for everyday wear as it’ll match almost any outfit and won’t be super noticeable when it starts to fade. Both of the colours are highly pigmented and long lasting, but in particular the velvet matte one. They’re both so creamy and apply really smoothly onto the lips.
The matte shade is slightly more drying on the lips, as expected because it’s matte, but i always ensure that i exfoliate and moisturise my lips prior to using it so that it doesn’t sink in to any cracked skin, and then i always moisturise after wearing it all day.
There is an amazing colour selection to choose from so there will definitely be something for everybody.
Another great thing about NARS is that they do not test on animals 😀
You can purchase the full size from Mecca for $37AUD.
I hope you found this review useful and maybe added something to your christmas list. Have you tried any of these or other NARS products? What did you think?
