NYX Wonder Stick- A Review

Now listen, I’ll be the first one to put up my hand and yell from the rooftops that I love the brand NYX. I love so many of their products and how they’re committed to good quality products that aren’t overpriced and that they don’t test on animals. But OMG, I hate this product with a deep passion.

Disclaimer: Take this review with a grain of salt. If you use this product and it works for you and you love using it, please continue and don’t be upset/offended. This is just my opinion and experience with the product.

Here’s the story:
I had been looking for a contour stick for months because I was getting into that more natural and dewy face look, however, I didn’t want to fork out the money for a high-end one because I had never used one before and I wasn’t sure how I would like it. I stumbled across this one at Priceline and thought that it could be worth giving a go.
Note, it was at this point that my mistakes were made. It was a very spontaneous purchase and I had not researched the product at all. I had also never even heard anyone else talk about it so that should have been my first warning. The next issue with NYX at the Priceline that I go to is that they don’t have testers and I wasn’t even able to swatch the product to feel the formula or to try to match it to my skin tone. I just grabbed the “Universal” shade which is designed to match any skin tone and decided to give it a go.

This product itself is dual sided so it is a highlighter-cum-contour. Each end winds up for easy application. In theory, it is a great product. It had so much potential. But the fact of the matter is that it is a piece of crap and does nothing! Also, you can feel that the quality of the packaging is really not that great and the lids are really insecure and I find that they often slide off.

To be honest I haven’t really used the highlighting side because it really doesn’t appeal to me. I already use a concealer that is light enough to highlight so I wasn’t in need of this product. Also, each time I swatched it, it just felt greasy and gross so I didn’t even want to try it.

Similarly, the contour is also greasy and gross but that’s not even my main issue. I’d apply it directly to the perimeter of my face as well as in the hollows of my cheeks from the stick. I’d then use my damp makeup sponge (by Real Techniques) to blend it in. Within seconds it was blended… to absolutely nothing! You couldn’t see it at all. I’d then try to apply more and blend it again… Poof! Gone! I then even tried to apply more and not blend it so much but it was clear that it was just un-blended contour and it didn’t sit well on the skin. So yeah, I don’t know where the contour disappeared to. Possibly the Bermuda Triangle?

I would never repurchase this product. I wouldn’t recommend, suggest, advise, endorse, prescribe, advocate, say what you want, I don’t like this product. I feel like I’ve made my point here…

This product retails for $19.95AUD from Priceline which wouldn’t be a bad price if the product was actually good. As you’re essentially getting 2 products in one (a contour and a highlight), it’s basically $10 each which is great value. But unfortunately, the product is crap. 🙂

Thank you for reading. I hope you found this post helpful. I tried to throw a bit of my humour in there to make this feel less negative. 🙂 If you’ve tried any contour sticks/cream contours and have any that you love, PLEASE let me know! I’d love to find one that’s not too warm/orangey.
