Travel Makeup Bag + Tips

So this June/July I am leaving Melbourne’s miserable weather and heading off to Greece and Croatia! I’m so prematurely excited that I’ve already put together the makeup bag of products that I’m going to take and my plan is to use those products up until I leave and make sure that they work well for me and I’m happy with the variety of looks that I can create. I’ve never done this before, normally I just throw some products in as I’m packing but I feel like this is a good idea because I can swap out products if I need to so that’s my first tip.

My second tip is to pack light and take really versatile products that can be used multiple ways. An example of this is taking a concealer instead of an eyelid primer, or a BB cream instead of a full coverage foundation that is buildable for evenings.

My third tip is to again, pack light by taking products that aren’t too bulky. You wouldn’t want to give up luggage space due to unnecessary packaging. You’ll soon see that I got around this by de-potting some of my more bulky products and putting them in magnetic palettes.

My fourth tip is to think about what the climate will be in the locations that you’re travelling to and the kind of holiday you’ll be having. For me personally, I’m going on a relaxing beach holiday with some activities and Greece and Croatia will be very hot as I am going during their summer seasons so I expect to become quite tanned. Thus, I have packed a foundation that will suit me best while I am tanned, and I have taken eyeshadow colours that are nice and bright for the summer.

My fifth tip is that you only really need one of everything (aside from lipsticks and eyeshadows). I promise you that you don’t need multiple highlighters or foundations or blushes. It’s unnecessary space being taken up.

Note: I’m not going to go in depth about what I think of each item. Just know, if it made it into the bag, I probably like it.

Primer: Smashbox Photofinish Pore Filling Primer

This is the exception to my “I probably like it” note.  This primer is definitely not a favourite but I’m taking it because it’s a nice travel size and it’ll do the job.

Foundation: ChiChi BB Cream

I’m actually planning on buying the CC cream to take instead because of its fuller coverage that would work well in the evenings but I could also wear less during the day for a lighter coverage. I chose the BB cream for all of the same reasons though and I’d definitely still take it if I can’t get my hands on the CC Cream. I also like that the packaging isn’t breakable or bulky as it’s a plastic tube.

Concealer: Maybelline Age Rewind

This concealer’s full coverage without being too thick allows me to wear is with a full glam evening look, or even on its own during the day or with a small amount of BB cream.

Banana Powder: Australis Banana Powder

This is my all time favourite banana powder so I definitely wanted to take it but the compact had cracked so the lid couldn’t stay on and it was really bulky overall. This led to me de-potting it from the compact and putting it in my Colourpop magnetic palette.

Setting Powder: Revlon photo ready setting powder

18834317_1546113125421731_729597465_n

This is the only setting powder that I have or have ever used, hence why I’m taking it. The packaging is a bit inconvenient though. I do like that it adds coverage though so I could even wear it by itself during the day.

Contour: Makeup Geek: Half Hearted

I love that I can so easily put this pan in my magnetic Colourpop palette with my banana powder.

Bronzer: The Body Shop Baked Bronzer: Warm Glow

This is just the most perfect bronzer. I love the finish it gives and that I can also use it as eyeshadow. It’s not super compact but I don’t really have a bronzer that is.

Blush: NYX High Definition Blush

This is the smallest, most compact, yet most pigmented blush which is the sole reason that it made the cut.

Highlight: Sleek Solstice Highlighters: Ecliptic + Equinox

I have also de-potted these pans from the palette so they easily bit into the Colourpop magnetic palette with my banana powder and my contour.  I love that they’re nice and small and they’re all I need for a short holiday away.

Brows: Maybelline + Models Prefer Brow Fixer

These are the products that I use for my everyday brow routine and they’re really compact already so I have no problem taking them.

Eyeshadows:

This is by far my favourite part omg. I’m just going to list them off by brand.

  • Makeup Geek
    • White Lies
    • Creme Brulee
    • Cabin Fever
    • Chickadee
    • Roulette
    • Bitten
    • Corrupt

  •  Colourpop pressed shadows
    • Top Notch
    • Popular Demand
    • Save It For Later
    • Wait For It
    • Stay Golden
    • Cloud Nine
  • Colourpop Super Shock shadows.
    • Game Face
    • Flipper

These normally come in super bulky packaging that I would NEVER have taken travelling but I de-potted them and they now fit in my medium Z-palette with the rest of my shadows.

Eyeliner:

Ok so here’s the exception to my only one of everything rule… but to be fair, they all serve different purposes.

Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen: Jet Black

This is the only liquid liner that I have, hence why I’m taking it. Liquid liner is always a bit of fun for full glam looks.

NYX Retractable Eyeliner: Black

This is the only black crayon eyeliner that I have going and I love using it on my upper eyelid when I can’t be bothered with liquid liner. This one is also great for tight lining and lining the waterline.

Mascara: NYX Stacked Mascara.

18902321_1546113102088400_1251224171_n

I love this mascara as it works so well for both upper and lower lashes and leaves my lashes looking long and voluminous.

Lip Liner: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil: Nice ‘n’ Spicy

18817066_1546113038755073_1303562207_n

The only nude lip pencil that I have. I wish it was retractable though because now I have to take a sharpener.

Lipsticks:

To be honest I’m still very stumped on what lipsticks to take because there’s so many that I love and always wear.

So here are what I’m thinking to take at this point, but it could definitely change.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know.

Setting Spray: NYX Matte Finish

18816970_1546113068755070_1114600408_n

This setting spray is nice and small so that’s a plus. It’s also the only setting spray that I use at the moment which is the main reason that I’m taking it. And I like that this is matte as I’m travelling to places with a hot climate, I won’t appear sweatier than I need to be.

There will be an upcoming post on my brushes and tools that I plan on taking and then maybe skincare?
